Odds are you’ll best recognize Blake Reese and Nick Horvath from the line, “Who in the hell are Blake Reese and Nick Horvath?”

Well, Reese and Horvath will forever be known as the two Florida Gators players who teamed up for what could go down as the greatest stolen base in baseball history during Monday night’s game against Auburn.

Tied at one apiece in the bottom of the fourth, Reese was on third while Horvath stood at first with two outs and a 1-2 count on some dude who is going to spend the rest of his life explaining that he was the guy who was up to bat but really did nothing when the magical play took place. Here it is:

Of course, you probably have the same “What the fuck was so special about that?” expression on your face that I did the first time I saw it go down. But after watching it from a different angle, you’ll see what made the play so special:

That’s right, kids. Horvath fell down on purpose to distract the pitcher for just a split second, and that was enough for Reese to slide into home and damn near concuss himself. Genius.

It’s not the first time a coach has come up with a distraction play in hopes of taking his team to the promised land. I mean, who could forget the kid who got down on all fours and started barking like a dog during the final seconds of a high school basketball game to turn the defense’s attention away from the kid who was cutting underneath the basket for an easy deuce?

Love it. Now if we can just get a coach to come up with a distraction play in which his wife stands up behind home plate and starts shaking her fake yams, we will finally have seen it all.

Oh, and Florida wound up winning the game on a home run that went off of an Auburn outfielder’s glove in the 11th inning. They’re now on to the College World Series, so they’ve got that going for them, which is nice…
