R.I.P. Dennis Green, Owner Of The Best NFL Press Conference Meltdown Of All Time

Former Vikings and Cardinals head coach Dennis Green passed away from complications of cardiac arrest Thursday night at the age of 67, but his shit-your-pants awesome tirade following a 2006 loss to the Bears will surely live on forever.

Like every Vikings coach before and after him, Green never hoisted a Lombardi Trophy. But both his 159 wins and .610 winning percentage make him the second-winningest coach in Vikings history behind Bud Grant, which while on the surface seems a lot like winning bronze at the Special Olympics, should be more than enough to show you that he was a good head coach while he was there.

In Arizona? Yeah, not so much.

Green’s Cardinals managed to lose twice as many games as they won during his three years in the desert, and all of that pig shit awful football culminated on October 16, 2006 when the Cardinals blew a 20-point halftime lead and a 13-point fourth quarter lead against the visiting Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. Arizona would lose the game 24-23 despite the fact that Rex Grossman was fucking garbage (more than usual), completing 14 of 37 passes for 144 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions.

How pathetic was that performance? Well, if those numbers didn’t do it for you, then this stat should: Matt Leinart – yes, that Matt Leinart – finished the game with a Total QBR almost 43 times that of Grossman. Now that‘s saying something.

Let’s see, what else? Oh yeah, the Bears didn’t score one offensive touchdown in the game, as the defense accounted for two scores and Devin Hester returned a punt for another.

So given all of that, you could imagine that Denny Green wasn’t going to be too chipper at his presser following the game. That was indeed the case, and as a result, he wound up giving us the greatest postgame podium meltdown of all time:

R.I.P., Denny. Thanks for that memory…
